On September 20th OutRight with the UN LGBTI Core Group held the 5th annual LGBTI Human Rights event at UNGA leaders weeks in UN Headquarters. The event focussed on the theme of ending violence and discrimination against LGBTI people and included key note speeches from the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights, heads of State’s, senior ministers, and special representative from 12 countries. The evening was attended by States, UN Agency and Secretariat representatives and civil society. The event was moderated by Jessica Stern, Executive DIrector of OutRight Action International.
Speakers highlighted the progress and pushback occurring worldwide on the human rights of LGBTIQ people, pointing out legislative successes at the local and international level in an era of fundamentalism and conservatism. Read more via OutRight International
